Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh will lead India’s green hydrogen revolution, said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here on Monday after virtually inaugurating Hero Future Energies’ (HFE) pioneering Green Hydrogen plant at Rockman Industries in Tirupati with an investment of Rs1,000 crore.
India’s first Green Hydrogen Project by power major NTPC at an estimated cost of Rs1.85 lakh crore at Pudimadaka was launched early this year here by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan. NTPC Green Energy Ltd is setting up the project in collaboration with New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP).
After inaugurating the project, Naidu took to X to say that “Andhra Pradesh continues to set a bold vision for the future of clean energy in India! Today, I inaugurated a first-of-its-kind green hydrogen plant in Tirupati. Launched by Hero Future Energies (HFE) and Rockman Industries, this pioneering project blends Green Hydrogen with LPG/PNG for industrial applications, marking a significant breakthrough in industrial decarbonization.” He stated that this initiative sets a new benchmark for India’s clean energy transition and demonstrates the potential of scalable, sustainable solutions. The success of this project offers a blueprint for industries such as glass, steel, petrochemicals, and chemicals to adopt hydrogen-based solutions without the need for extensive infrastructure overhauls. He hastened to add: “This milestone also reflects our commitment to leading India’s green energy revolution in alignment with the Swarnandhra Vision-2047. The Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy Policy-2024 has been a bold step in that direction, aiming to add over 160 GW of renewable energy capacity and attract investments worth approximately Rs10 trillion ($1,18.95 bn) within the next five years.”
With its strategic coastal advantages, deep-sea ports, robust logistics network, and industry-friendly policies, Andhra Pradesh is poised to become a global hub for green hydrogen exports, catering to domestic and international markets! Congratulations to Hero Future Energies and Rockman Industries. On this groundbreaking green hydrogen plant, he said that with its strong industrial base and progressive energy policies, Andhra Pradesh is well-positioned to lead India’s green hydrogen revolution.
“This project marks another step towards our state’s clean energy future, leveraging our abundant renewable resources and growing industrial demand,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the State is committed to leading India’s green energy revolution, aligning with its Swarnandhra Vision-2047, which aims to make the State a global hub for renewable energy and green hydrogen production.
“Our government is determined to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, supporting India’s Net-Zero by 2070 goal and contributing to energy security while reducing crude oil imports,” he pointed out.
Naidu said that in October 2024, the State introduced the Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, with a vision to add over 160GW of renewable energy capacity and attract investments worth approximately Rs10 trillion (~$118.95 billion) over the next five years. This policy also focuses on developing green hydrogen production, electrolyser manufacturing, and infrastructure for hydrogen-powered mobility.
In his address, Rahul Munjal, Founder CMD, Hero Future Energies said: “This project is a major step toward industrial decarbonization. Our unique blending of green hydrogen with LNG offers industries an innovative pathway to reduce emissions. We are grateful for the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s support in fostering clean energy innovation in Andhra Pradesh.”
Ujjwal Munjal, Managing Director, Rockman Industrie, added “we are proud to host this landmark initiative in partnership with Hero Future Energies. This plant underscores our commitment to reducing carbon footprints and driving eco-friendly innovation in the automotive components industry.”
The virtual inauguration ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including K Vijayanand, Chief Secretary, Dr N Yuvaraj, Secretary, Industries, Saikanth Varma, CEO of APEDB, and other officials.
